Contract Pack: KSP 2 'For Science!' (KSP 2 Exploration Mode in KSP 1)
Overview
This Contract Pack brings the narrative-driven "For Science!" exploration missions from KSP 2 into KSP 1. It utilizes Contract Configurator to port the fictitious manufacturers, verbatim and semi-verbatim mission briefings, and the complete and exact progression of the KSP 2 exploration mode into KSP 1.
Design Intent & Payouts
The science, fund, and reputation rewards in this pack end up being significantly higher than typical KSP 1 contracts. This mod was designed with the intention of being played without standard stock contracts enabled. These high reward yields have been kept intact as they were in KSP 2 to support a possible future TechTree mod that mimics KSP 2's exact progression.
New Agencies Included
This mod populates your Mission Control with several familiar organizations from the KSP 2 universe:
- LightYear Tire Company
- Coop's Connectors
- Joel Kerman's Smudgeless Lenses
- Major Comms
- The Benefactor (new)
Features & "Director's Cut" Alterations (SPOILERS)
Because KSP 1 and KSP 2 handle terrain, anomalies, and game mechanics differently, several creative liberties have been taken to ensure these contracts are engaging, challenging, and functional.
- "Science Mode" Contract: Because KSP 2 did not utilize a money system, a custom, optional, limited-time mission from "The Benefactor" has been added to grant a massive payout, effectively letting you play a funded "Science Mode".
- Lonely Satellite: A set of Satellite parts are unlocked temporarily during this contract.
- Kapy Rock: Instead of a mountain, this waypoint now guides you to an asteroid on the surface of Kerbin.
- Stargazer Point: The waypoint has been relocated to an plateau like island, featuring a small observatory at the summit.
- Minmus Monument: The target destination has been updated to guide players to the Squad Monument on Minmus.
- Duna Monument: The waypoint has been changed to lead players to a mysterious sound on the surface of Duna.
- Are There Fuel Stations: Made the Rockomax Jumbo-64 Fuel Tank temporarily unlocked to fit the sponsorship narrative.
- Lens Test: The difficulty has been increased. Instead of a simple atmospheric scan, players must now survive within Jool's atmosphere for 1 minute and 30 seconds to satisfy the contract, much like the atmospheric scan mechanic of KSP 2.
- Gourmand: Rather than visiting a natural world feature, players will navigate to a replacement croissant-like object on Moho.
- Artificial Superpowers: The required science experiment has been changed from a radiation survey to a magnetic observation. Additionally, the mission requires a suborbital trajectory above Pol's Lowlands, as magnetometers do not function while landed.
- There may be other minor alterations that have slipped my mind.
Note from the creator
- I really just made this for me and my son to enjoy. It was my son's idea for me to upload and share it with you all. I love my son, J, and dedicate the initial release to him.
- Even without the Science Mode contract the contract payouts should allow for a default hard mode playthrough in my testing (with quicksaves and revert enabled), although I got down to only $100 prior to finishing the Duna Monument.
